The Lumberton Raiderettes
The Lumberton Raiderettes are a dynamic dance team renowned for their spirited performances and strong community presence. Their primary goals are to foster team spirit, promote community involvement, and showcase their talent through captivating performances and events.
What sets them apart is their legacy and active community engagement. Unlike other teams, they prioritize creating strong bonds among team members and fostering a supportive environment. The director, Jenny Chandler, is my sister-in-law, which has given me a unique insight into the team's hard work and dedication.
For the Lumberton Raiderettes, I created a variety of apparel designs over three years, producing 5 to 6 designs annually for team uniforms, community support shirts, and alumni apparel. Additionally, I designed graphics for playbills and social media posts and occasionally recorded and edited videos upon request. Although the team had an established visual and brand identity, it had faded over time. One of the project's goals was to reestablish this identity.
Reigniting Tradition
To understand the Lumberton Raiderettes' identity, I engaged in thorough discussions with Jenny Chandler to grasp the team’s vision, values, and goals. I conducted initial research to gather inspiration and align the designs with the team’s legacy branding and spirit.
My approach focused on creating designs that reflected the team's dynamic energy and strong community presence, ensuring each design was thematic for specific purposes, such as golf tournaments, revue recitals, and camps.
The visual identity was established by updating and incorporating the team’s colors, symbols, and dynamic elements that resonate with their energetic spirit. Known for their cowboy hats, boots, and dance props, including a derrick and horseshoe, the designs were created to be visually appealing and reflective of the team’s vibrant personality and hometown feel. This approach worked well with the audience, fostering a sense of pride and unity among team members and supporters.
